14U Travel Win a Nail-Biter in UTHL
The first annual UTHL (Utah Travel Hockey League) tournament did not disappoint! The 14U Dawgs Travel team placed themselves in a great position placing 2nd in the division and getting a bye in the first round. The rest must of made a huge difference as they absolutely dominated the Jr Grizz from start to finish, with a final score of 5-0.
But the championship would be a different story. Facing off against the Jr Aggies, they would need to play their best hockey yet. A back-and-forth game, where there were multiple lead changes, always within a goal of one another, this game was set to have an unreal ending. With the Jr Aggies down by 1 going into the 3rd, you would see them strike first to tie it up just a minute in. A few minutes later the Dawgs answer with one of their own to regain the lead at 3-2. But again, the Aggies refuse to lose as they come back just 2 minutes later to tie the game up yet again. Now 3-3, and the clock ticking away the Aggies felt the relief when they popped in a goal with 3 minutes left to take the lead at 4-3. With the pressure building, the Dawgs came together to show everyone they weren't finished. Just 40 seconds after the Aggies took the lead, #8 Chase Weiss answered the call by netting a game tying goal. With energy overtaking the bench, you just knew that the boys were buzzin and ready for more. Now, less than 2 minutes remain, and it's an all-out dog fight for the game winner. And as the great Herb Brooks once said, "great moments are born from great opportunities". And that is what #2 Braddocks Padilla lives for. The captain netted a beauty of a back hander in the top corner to get the game winner with 28 seconds remaining, and with that he finished off his hat trick! Final score 5-4.
